શ્રાવણ માહાત્મ્ય

નૈમિષારણ્યમાં શૌનકાદિ ઋષિઓએ સૂત જીને શ્રાવણ માસનું પાવન માહાત્મ્ય સંભળાવવાની વિનંતી કરી. સૂત જીએ ઉત્તમ શ્રોતાના બાર સદ્ગુણો વર્ણવ્યા અને ભગવાન શિવે સનત્કુમારને કહેલી શ્રાવણની મહિમા પ્રગટ કરી.

ભગવાન શિવે શ્રાવણ માસના પવિત્ર આચરણ, નિયમ અને ધર્મ પાલનનો ઉપદેશ આપ્યો—જેમાં પ્રભાતે સ્નાન, પવિત્રતા, બીલીપત્રથી શિવપૂજન, ઇન્દ્રિય સંયમ અને સાત્વિક દિનચર્યાનું વિધાન છે.

શ્રાવણ માસમાં નક્ત વ્રત (સૂર્યાસ્ત કે તારા દર્શન પછી એક સમય ભોજન)નો અપરંપાર મહિમા. ભગવાન શિવે આ વ્રતની વિધિ, નિયમ અને પાપમુક્તિના અલૌકિક ફળનું વર્ણન કર્યું.

ધારણ-પારણ વ્રતનું પાવન વિધાન, જેમાં આખા શ્રાવણ માસ દરમિયાન એક દિવસ સંપૂર્ણ ઉપવાસ અને બીજા દિવસે ભોજન કરાય છે. આ તપશ્ચર્યા દેહ અને આત્મા બંનેને પરમ પવિત્ર બનાવે છે.

કોટિલિંગ પૂજનનું માહાત્મ્ય તથા શ્રાવણના પવિત્ર રવિવાર વ્રતની કથા. ભગવાન સૂર્ય નારાયણ અને શિવની આરાધનાથી દરિદ્રતા, રોગ અને કષ્ટ દૂર થઈને ઐશ્વર્યની પ્રાપ્તિ થાય છે.
