Yamaganda (Yamagandam) is the part of the day associated with Yama. Like Rahu Kaal and Gulikai Kalam it comes once every day, in a part of the daylight fixed by the weekday, and it is followed widely in South India.
The daylight, from sunrise to sunset, is cut into eight equal parts. Yamaganda is the fifth part on Sunday and one part earlier on each day after it, down to the first on Thursday; on Friday it is the seventh and on Saturday the sixth.
| Weekday | Part of the day (of 8) |
|---|---|
| Sunday | Part 5 |
| Monday | Part 4 |
| Tuesday | Part 3 |
| Wednesday | Part 2 |
| Thursday | Part 1 |
| Friday | Part 7 |
| Saturday | Part 6 |
Starting a journey, a new job or business, or an auspicious ceremony in Yamaganda is traditionally avoided. Work already under way and daily worship go on as usual.
This is traditional calendar guidance, not a guarantee of any outcome. Panchang traditions differ on these periods; for a particular ceremony, ask your family priest or follow your own panchang.
Times are worked out for the place you have chosen (India until you choose one). For the whole day at your place, open the daily panchang.
