About Vijaya Muhurta

Vijaya Muhurta (literally 'the hour of victory') is one of the most powerful and auspicious Muhurtas in Vedic astrology. It occurs during the afternoon and is traditionally calculated as the 11th Muhurta of the day, when daylight is divided into 15 equal divisions.

  • Afternoon
  • 11th of the 15 day muhurtas
  • About 48 minutes (one muhurta)
  • Journeys, negotiations and legal matters

According to classical astrological texts, undertakings initiated during Vijaya Muhurta are blessed with triumph and success. It is especially auspicious for resolving disputes, court cases, business negotiations, commencing journeys, acquiring properties, and inaugurating significant ventures. In the Ramayana, Lord Rama initiated his march against Ravana during Vijaya Muhurta.

Traditional Significance

'Vijaya' means victory. Kings set out on campaigns at this hour, most famously on Vijayadashami. It is chosen for starting business ventures, signing agreements, legal action and journeys where a good outcome is sought.

Timings vary daily depending on local sunrise and sunset. Unlike Abhijit Muhurat which has restrictions on Wednesdays, Vijaya Muhurta remains generally favorable, nullifying numerous planetary doshas.

Times are worked out for the place you have chosen (India until you choose one). For the whole day at your place, open the daily panchang.
