Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy for Hindu Calendar mobile applications (Android Package: com.hinducalendar.android, iOS) and website.

Last Updated & Effective Date: September 2026

1. Introduction & Scope

Welcome to Hindu Calendar (“we,” “our,” or “us”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application Hindu Calendar (Android Package: com.hinducalendar.android), our iOS mobile application, and our official website located at www.hinducalendar.today.

We are committed to maintaining the sanctity and privacy of our users. Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access the application or website.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only the minimum necessary data required to provide you with precise Vedic astronomical calculations and a reliable user experience:

Location Data (Precise and Approximate)

Vedic astronomical calculations (including Sunrise, Sunset, Moonrise, Tithi, Nakshatra, Yoga, Karana, Rahu Kalam, Yamaganda, and Choghadiya) depend directly on geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude). With your permission, the application accesses your device’s precise or approximate location via GPS and network providers to calculate local celestial events. You may also choose your city manually without granting location permissions. Location data is processed strictly for computational purposes and is not sold or shared for third-party marketing.

Device Information & Technical Identifiers

When you access the mobile application, our third-party service providers (such as Google Mobile Ads / AdMob and Firebase) may automatically collect certain device-specific information, including your device model, operating system version, unique device identifiers (such as the Google Advertising ID / GAID or Apple IDFA), IP address, app version, language, and system configuration.

Crash Logs & Diagnostic Data

To maintain application stability and troubleshoot technical issues, we use Google Firebase Crashlytics. If an unexpected error or crash occurs, automated crash logs, stack traces, and device performance metrics are transmitted securely to help us quickly locate and resolve the bug.

Local Preferences & On-Device Storage

Your personalized configurations (such as your chosen regional calendar system, Amanta or Purnimanta tradition, preferred language, theme settings, and saved reminders) are stored locally on your device using on-device persistent storage (such as AsyncStorage / SharedPreferences).

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following legitimate purposes:

  • Accurate Panchang Computations: Calculating exact horizon timings, daily planetary coordinates, and festival schedules tailored to your location.
  • Application Functionality & Personalization: Remembering your chosen language, calendar school, and display preferences.
  • Advertisements: Displaying banner, interstitial, and app-open advertisements via Google AdMob to keep the application free for all users.
  • Diagnostics & Stability: Monitoring performance, analyzing crashes via Firebase Crashlytics, and improving code efficiency.
  • Customer Support: Responding to user feedback, inquiries, and technical support requests.

4. Third-Party Services & SDK Disclosures

To deliver advertising, analytics, and crash reporting, our mobile application integrates third-party Software Development Kits (SDKs). These third-party services may collect data in accordance with their respective privacy policies:

5. Advertising & Your Choices

We display advertisements provided by Google AdMob. Google AdMob may use device advertising identifiers (such as the Google Advertising ID / GAID) and cookies/web technologies to serve personalized or non-personalized advertisements based on user interests and app interaction.

How to Opt Out of Personalized Ads on Android:

You can control or reset your advertising ID or opt out of personalized advertisements at any time on your Android device:

  1. Open your device’s Settings
  2. Tap Google → Ads
  3. Tap Delete advertising ID or Reset advertising ID

Note: Opting out of personalized ads does not mean you will no longer see ads; you will still receive generic ads.

6. Device Permissions & User Controls

The mobile application may request the following permissions during use:

  • Location Permission (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION): Used exclusively to determine horizon coordinates for sunrise, sunset, and panchang calculations. You can revoke this permission anytime under your device’s Settings → Apps → Hindu Calendar → Permissions → Location.
  • Notifications Permission (POST_NOTIFICATIONS): Used to deliver timely reminders for selected festivals, Ekadashi, Amavasya, Purnima, or daily sunrise alerts if enabled. You can toggle reminders off within the app settings or via system settings.

7. Data Retention & Deletion Policy

We adhere strictly to Google Play’s User Data and Data Deletion policies:

  • On-Device Data: All user preferences, selected calendar traditions, and saved events are stored on your local device. You can immediately erase all local data by clearing the app data in your device settings or by uninstalling the application.
  • Telemetry & Crash Logs: Diagnostic data collected by Firebase Crashlytics and Google Analytics is retained in aggregated, anonymized form in accordance with Google’s standard data retention schedules (typically up to 90 days for crash reports, and up to 14 months for analytics).
  • Data Deletion Requests: If you wish to request the deletion of any data associated with your interactions or support inquiries, please contact us at [email protected] with the subject line “Data Deletion Request”. We will process your verified request within 30 business days.

8. Children’s Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

Our application and website are designed for a general audience and are not directed to children under the age of 13 (or under the applicable age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13 without verified parental consent, we will take immediate steps to delete that information from our records.

9. Security of Your Information

We implement industry-standard technical and organizational security measures to protect data. All network communications with our web services and third-party SDK endpoints are encrypted in transit using Transport Layer Security (TLS / HTTPS). While no electronic transmission or digital storage method is 100% secure, we continuously monitor and improve our security safeguards.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect enhancements in application features, legal compliance, or changes in regulatory standards. When changes are made, the updated date at the top of this page will be revised. We encourage users to review this page periodically to remain informed of how we safeguard user data.
