Significance & Spiritual Meaning
Chandra Grahan is a lunar eclipse, when the Earth's shadow falls on the full moon.
Spiritual philosophy, inner meaning and eternal virtues
It happens only on a Purnima. A total (Purna) eclipse covers the moon fully; a partial (Anshika) one covers part of it. It is seen only from the places where the moon is above the horizon at that time. In the Hindu tradition a Sutak period of about nine hours before a lunar eclipse is kept, and ends with it.
