મકરસંક્રાંતિ એટલે કે ઉત્તરાયણ એ સૂર્યદેવના ધન રાશિમાંથી મકર રાશિમાં પ્રવેશવાનો માંગલિક તહેવાર છે. આ દિવસે સૂર્યનારાયણને જળ અર્પણ કરી ગાયોને ઘાસ, ગરીબોને અન્ન-વસ્ત્ર અને તલ-ગોળનું દાન કરવામાં આવે છે તથા આકાશમાં રંગબેરંગી પતંગો ચગાવવામાં આવે છે.
